Reporting to the Senior Director of Fundraising, the Regional Director of Fundraising, Mountain West will help shape and lead fundraising across Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and New Mexico. As part of TCF’s growing Strategic Giving team, the Regional Director will work closely with regional and fundraising leadership to set fundraising priorities, connect the region’s most important conservation work with philanthropic opportunities, and grow support from individuals and institutions.
This is an exciting opportunity to help build TCF’s fundraising presence and team in the Mountain West. The Regional Director will help shape the region’s fundraising strategy and, as opportunities grow, help build the team and support needed to deliver it. This is a leadership role for a strategic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial fundraiser who can build strong relationships, open new doors, develop a strong regional fundraising program, and turn ambitious conservation priorities into compelling opportunities for philanthropy.
Note: This role considered hybrid in the Denver/Boulder, CO area but will consider remote in the Mountain West. • Develop and execute the fundraising strategy for the Mountain West and Southwest, ensuring regional priorities and funding needs are clearly defined and communicated across teams.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 150 major individual and institutional donors and prospects through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build new relationships with individuals, foundations, and other philanthropic partners with significant capacity to support TCF.
- Partner with field staff to develop and advance strategies for key donor and funder relationships.
- Develop philanthropic opportunities around priority conservation projects, programs, acquisition capital, unrestricted support, and other organizational needs.
- Lead, develop and contribute to proposals, grant requests, donor communications, briefings, and other fundraising materials.
- Coordinate with fundraising colleagues nationally on relationships and opportunities that cross regions, programs, or organizational priorities.
- Represent TCF with donors and funders through meetings, site visits, events, and other engagement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and timely donor strategies, activity, and relationship information in TCF’s CRM.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO HAVE - At least 5–7 years of fundraising experience, with demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts from individual and institutional donors.
- Experience developing and managing relationships with major donors, foundations, and other philanthropic partners.
- Strong grant writing and proposal development experience.
- Knowledge of conservation funding and the environmental and conservation nonprofit sector; familiarity with the Mountain West and Southwest is strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to make a compelling case for conservation.
- Strong strategic thinking, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A self-starter who works effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A builder’s mentality, with the ability to identify opportunities, develop new approaches, and move ideas into action.
- Experience managing, mentoring, or developing staff.
- Ability to build consensus and work effectively with colleagues across teams, functions, and geographies.
- Ability to convey enthusiasm for The Conservation Fund’s mission and inspire others to support its work.
WHAT WE’D LIKE YOU TO HAVE - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Salesforce experience.
- Event planning experience.
- Grant writing experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Colorado is the preferred location for this position, with a strong preference for candidates based in the Denver or Boulder area; however, highly qualified candidates located elsewhere in the Mountain West region will also be considered. The Regional Director may work from a home office or from The Conservation Fund’s Colorado office. Regular travel throughout the Mountain West and Southwest will be required for donor meetings, site visits, events, and collaboration with field staff.

- The position does require sporadically working long hours and/or weekends.
- Overnight travel is required.
